Free and open source. Install instructions in the repository README.
Overview
D2’s modern diagram language produces cleaner automatic layouts than most tools; this extension renders it straight onto the Inkscape canvas for annotation and journal-grade finishing.
Why it exists
Architecture and pipeline schematics deserve better than dragged boxes — declare them in D2, refine them in vector.
How to install
- Open the GitHub repository and follow the README — installation is the standard Inkscape route: copy the extension files into your Inkscape
extensionsfolder. - Restart Inkscape; the extension appears under Extensions in the menu.
- Check the README for dependencies (Python packages, API keys, or external binaries where applicable).
When NOT to use this
Requires the D2 binary installed; like all text-to-diagram flows, regeneration overwrites hand edits.
